RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS

Responsible Breeders usually only breed a limited number of litters per year. They strive to preserve the good qualities in thier chosen breeds and to eliminate potential hereditary problems. They sometimes will keep the whole litter of pups since they aren't breeding for profit but to compete with their dogs in a chosen sport.      You may be put on a waiting list to get a puppy from a good breeder. Unlike puppy mills and commercial breeders, the pups from a responsible breeder have buyersbefore they are born. They require you to sign a contract and will ask as many questions about you as you should ask about them.

Not all the pups from a responsible breeder are going to be "show" quality, some are going to be "pet" quality. A pet quality pup simply means a pup deviates some way from with the breed standard. A good example of this is a pup that does not have a dentition bite. This would not affect the overall health of the dog but, the fault might disqualify it from showing or a breeding program.
