ENTERING A SHOW ![]()
Before entering a dog show you must know the rules. The AKC has booklets with these rules. I would advise that you get Rules Applying to Dog Shows, Rules Applying to Registration and Discipline and the Obedience Regulations booklets. The AKC web site also covers these rules. Breaking the rules outlined by the AKC can end up costing you. You can be fined and/or suspended from showing at AKC shows.
To enter your dog you need to get a Premium List. A Premium List has the entry form for the dog show. It also includes, directions to the show grounds, entry fees, trophys, motels that accept dogs and specific rules applying to the show ground. Dog Clubs use Show Superintendants or secretaries that print these lists, handle entries, and set up the show ground.Dog Clubs are non-profit; the money generated by the shows usually covers only the expense of the shows.
You don't need to be a member of a dog club in order to enter a show. Once you enter a show you are put on a mailing list and will receive premiums for other shows given by the same club or organized by the same show superintendent or show secretary.

JOINING A DOG CLUB ![]()
Dog clubs are always looking for new members to join. They are non-profit so the more people in the club they have to help with the various club activities throughout the year the better.
Most clubs require you to attend at least three meetings and have a sponsor (a current member of the club), to be voted in as a new member.Don't worry if you don't know anyone in the club to sponsor you. Someone is usually happy to sponsor a potential new member.
In most cases, after you become a member, the club will require you to attend at least six meetings a year, or volunteer to work at a club function.
Becoming a member of a club is a great way to meet new friends that share a common interest in something that you love dearly: DOGS.
