Agility is a fun sport for you and your dog. It
is highly recommended that your dog be trained in
basic obedience. Dogs are required to work off lead
and away from their handlers in this sport, so
control can mean the difference between success and
failure.
Agility is a new sport in the AKC and new clubs
are forming around the country.Findng a local Breed
Club or Obedience Club in your area can lead you to
people that are active in this sport. Classes in
agility are held by the agility clubs so that you and
your dog can get familiar with the rules and
equipment.
I have observed that dogs with advanced
obedience titles seem to gain agility titles faster
than those that started with little or no obedience
training.
The reason an advanced obedience dog (one
with a CDX or a UD) might do better in agility is
that they are already accustomed to working
independant of the handler. These dogs and handlers
are very much a team.
I will be including pictures of the various
obstacles used in agility soon.
