A message to those that want to breed

Most of us love our dogs and cannot imagine anybody ever being mean to their pets. However, it does happen all the time. There are so many rescue dogs that have suffered to the greatest extent of the word. Here are some stories of less fortunate dogs that have come through rescue. At least they found help, but think about ALL of the others that never did or ever will find help. Sure some of them came from puppy mills, and then some came from breeders. However, all of them thought they were going to go to a new and loving home.
Perhaps there are those of you that think, "It would NEVER happen to one of my puppies". You think you check the homes, you think you trust the people. You know they would never do anything to harm an animal, they seem to love them them too much.

Do you really know these people, or have you just been lucky so far. What would you do when you were contacted by a rescue organization, and told a pup that you had bred was there? You thought it would never happen. Then there are the people that think like you. They think their dog is way too nice to have altered. They breed their dog, then puppy buyers breed their puppies, and the vicious cycle goes on. Shelters and rescues cannot keep up with the demand for homes, and all these wonderful dogs are destroyed.

Their only crime was to be unwanted by stupid owners. Why should they have to die?

How do you know this will not be one of your puppies, or  a descendant of your puppy? How do you know this is not one of your dogs to begin with?

Then there are those buyers that want a Rottweiler more then anything in the world. Yet they have  absolutely no idea of how much time and patience a breed like this needs. A Rottweiler can be a handful, and needs to be in contact with its family, and MUST be socialized from puppy hood. Potential owners should research on this breed, as they are like no other. A breeder should be giving out literature on this breed, that describes its needs and requirements.  It is their responsibility and obligation. A breeder must educate buyers, and make sure they know what they are doing. Furthermore, a breeder should have proper contracts to ensure that there is no breeding this pup, until certain stipulations are met.

If seeing them dead is still not enough, how about some that are alive? Barely...

This is Ellis. When his rescuer  saw him at the shelter, on death row. She did not even recognize that he was a Rottweiler.  Click on his picture to see his story.
This is Miss Fancy. She was loved and owned until the day she died by Deanna Terry. Poor Fancy died, due to complications that arose from her previous abuse. Click on her picture to see her story.

There will be no Christmas for so many
'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town, every shelter is full - we are lost but not found,
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare, we hope every minute that someone will care,
They'll come to adopt us and give us the call, "Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!!"
But now we sit here and think of the days.. we were treated so fondly -we had cute, baby ways,
Once we were little, then we grew and we grew - now we're no longer young and we're no longer new.
So out the back door we were thrown like the trash, they reacted so quickly - why were they so rash?
We "jump on the children", "don't come when they call", we "bark when they leave us", "climb over the wall."
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed, now we suffer the consequence of the errors THEY made.
If only they'd trained us, if only we knew... we'd have done what they asked us and worshiped them, too.
We were left in the backyard, or worse -let to roam-now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.
They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye... "Maybe someone else will give you a try."
So now here we are, all confused and alone... in a shelter with others who long for a home.
The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat, with so many to care for, they can't stay to chat,
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer...we know that they wonder how long we'll be here.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads...of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears - our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear.
If you can't adopt us and there's no room at the Inn - could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year - can you give more than hope to everyone here?
Please make a donation to pay for the heat... and help get us something special to eat.
The shelter that cares for us wants us to live, and more of us will, if more people will give.
