Housing & Fences
Housing & Fencing

Most goat enthusiasts fix up an existing shed or building to accomodate their first animals.  The building must be dry inside; not only do goats hate to get wet, but they will actually get sick if they can't get out of the damp and drizzle.

A barn in a dry, well drained area does not need a floor.  A wooden floor may rot and a concrete floor is cold and damp.  If a concrete floor is already in place, you will have to provide enormous amounts of beeding to insulate the gaots in the winter or build a wooden sleeping platform.

You will want a small exercise yard outside the shed.  You can tether a goat for short periods of time provided someone is around to watch them.

A good system to use for fencing is to use farm fence (page wire) with electric reinforcement.  It teaches the goat to respect electric wires.
