Rescued at
age 5-1/2 months. My son Josh kept saying "Mom can we get a boxer?" So one
day I did a little research and thought they sounded like wonderful dogs. I
saw an add in the newspaper for boxer rescue, I called and a very nice women
talked my ear off about how wonderful boxer's are, then she took my name and number for a waiting list. Several months passed, I was at work and Josh called. He was talking so fast, I couldn't understand him :o). A man called
who got our number from Boxer Rescue. He told Josh all about his boxer that
he had to get rid of. He told him how smart he was and how many champions
were in his Pedigree. He told Josh that Duke was a really cool dog. The man
was a ex-major leauge baseball relief pitcher. He had paid quite a bit for Duke, but his wife wanted the dog gone. I had forgotten I even called the rescue. I called the man back and we went and looked at Duke and brought
him home the next day. Duke was kept in a cage in their basement all day.
He was only let out when the husband came home from work. The wife didn't
want him to knock over the children. Then at night, back in cage in basement. When we brought Duke to our house, he was so happy. Finally some attention, LOVE and exercise! He was very well behaved and took to us immediately. He
even started barking at the door the 2nd day. He slept in Josh's bed from
the first day we brought him home. He never even woke up at night to get out
of bed. I took him to obedience school and he was the star and clown of the class. Sadly my beloved Duke passed away of cancer at the age of 2 yrs and 2 months. I will never forget him.
