Cosmo

Cosmo was hatched April 13, 2006 by a breeder, who eventually sold him to our local pet store. He is a hand raised baby. "He" being a guess. One day we'll have him DNA tested to be sure. For now though, it just doesn't really matter that much to us. Cosmo is a Rainbow Lory (Green Naped).

Cosmo was an "impulse" purchase sort of... but not totally, exactly. LOL My total experience with birds was a blue budgie when I was 12 years old, and right into the Enid Blyton adventure series (most of you probably don't have a clue, but I'm giving away my age - LOL) Anyways, my budgie was named Kiki, after Jack's cockatoo in the Adventure series. I loved Kiki to death! He was very tame.

Since getting married 11 years ago, we've owned cats, dogs, fish, rabbits, hamsters, turtles, but I just couldn't get hubby to cave in to birds (I was actually thinking budgies due to my past minimal, but pleasant, experience). No way, he wouldn't consider birds! Noisy and dirty is what he would call them. Pretty rich considering our mengerie of pets we've had! LOL

I've begged and pleaded over the last 11 years, to no avail. Well, I haven't begged all THAT hard, since he's pretty good at letting me have everything else.

Cosmo, I just sort of fell in love with as soon as I saw him. He was so "pretty" and friendly, and we seemed to "click" immediately. I begged for 1 month straight! And this time, I really did beg hard.

I just sort of fell in love with Cosmo. Researched everything I could get my hands on about lories, and knew I could give him a good home. After a month had passed (November 4th to be exact), Gary came home from work and said we would go pick up Cosmo... well, you could hear a pin drop!

You'd think I'd be thrilled, wouldn't ya? But I became terrified instead! I didn't want an impulse buy from Gary that he would regret in a month, 6 months, a year... this bird would live for 20 - 30 years! So, I went through EVERY single con (bad thing) that I could think of about birds in general, and about lories specifically. I wanted his 100% buy in and commitment on this. I didn't want to bring Cosmo home if he wouldn't be accepted by Gary.

Gary told me that he'd thought a lot about Cosmo over the last month that I'd been begging (but he never let on - sly bugger!) and had beeen doing research of his own (MEN!) and he was 100% prepared to give Cosmo a home. HURRAY! Cosmo came home with us that day.

Cosmo is a very happy, animated, playful, and lovable parrot. He is always on the go! He loves to play, take baths (hilarious!), screech, talk, and sing. He hangs upside down all the time (call him my "bat bird"), plays on his back (another hilarious!), and is forever following us around the house like a lost puppy when he's out of his cage.

Cosmo says "peekaboo" very clearly, and has just learned "what's up?". Gary swears he's heard him also say "Hi Cosmo" but I haven't heard that phrase yet.
