RAINBOW BRIDGE

"There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.

Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated."

Kiran was with us for all too short of a time. She came to live with us on July 17th 1999 and because of an unfortunate accident left us on December 5th 1999.

Kiran’s tragedy could have been avoided and she could still be here in our lives if simple precaution had been taken. This is why I fell I must share Kiran's story with others in the hopes that she will live on in those that are saved by this tragedy.

Kiran died when she caught her halter on a bolt that was on the outside of her pen as she reached through the rails to reach some hay and got her halter caught. She panicked and broke her neck in her struggle to get free.

This can happen in an instant and even leaving your horses unattended for the shortest amount of time puts them at risk and that is a risk too great to take.

We had left Kiran for only a few moments to go and get a camera to take a picture of her when it happened. Now the picture that I have of her is her laying there not moving and gone forever and that is a picture I will never be able to get out of my mind.

Please NEVER leave your horse unattended with a halter on even for a brief moment. That brief moment can cause the loss of an entire lifetime.

Kiran was only a year old and lost her life to this tragedy.

We miss Kiran dearly and always will and no matter how much I wish I could change things there is no way to go back now. I could only stand over her and tell her how sorry I truly am.

You're filled with anger and disbelief
You ask why take your pet; she never hurt a leaf
Nothing makes sense; as you sit down and cry
But only the good Lord; can really say why
Into all our lives; a little rain must fall
And we must be strong; to answer that call
It usually happens; when are guard is down
Then your feelings go on; a merry-go-round
You must hold on tight now; with all your might
Because it's always darkest; before the light
Stop and take a look; down deep in your heart
It’s there you'll find the strength; to make a new start
Your little one is now home; in Heaven above
cradled in God's arms; covered with his love
This isn't the end; you'll see her one-day
and on that special day; you'll be together to stay
