Dynamic Dalmatian Debuts in Columbus!
Team Spot initiated the 1999 agility season with a trip to Columbus, OH for an agility trial sponsored by the Columbus All Breed Training Club.
The Determined Dalmatian was the first to hit the road this season to test skills honed over the winter months.
The Mottled Marvel was still in search of that elusive third leg for Open JWW and was ready for competition in the Excellent Standard class.
On Saturday she hit the Open JWW course first and had a nice run. Unfortunately, title hopes were dashed when the Black & White Blur blundered at the weave poles (of course!).
But, she returned late in the afternoon to nab her first leg in Excellent A Standard by knocking off a CLEAN RUN, 4 seconds under course time! Unfortunately, a bevy of Border Collies pushed the Dyamite Dalmatian out of the placings. (She actually came in 6th!)
On Sunday, the Devilish Dal blew a good run in Excellent A Standard when she missed the contact on the A frame with only 2 more obstacles left to finish the course! And, She then turned Duncehound on Open JWW and was pulled off by her handler after refusing several bar jumps & ignoring the weave poles (only 6 poles, too!)
Anyway, Spots fans - the DD now is 1/3 an Excellent dog, and STILL only 2/3 an Open JWW dog!
Next week the RDLC gang travels to Edison, NJ for a one day show and your favorite Dalmatian gets another shot at that continually elusive, evasive Open JWW title!
Welcome to another season of the ASN. Look for improvements to "Spot's Spot" on the web this year, and, this correspondent will be reporting agility events for the Mount Nittany Dog Training Club, too!
(Dining tip of the week: When in Columbus visit the Longhorn Steak House -- Spot gives it two thumbs (or dewclaws!) up. By the way, since the ravenous rotties were no where to be seen, the DD got their share of the leftover steak - seems you need to be running "excellent" to get those goodies!)
See ya next week!
