Devilish Dalmatian Dances to Disqualification!
Dateline: Burlington, NJ 10/25/98
Team Spot and the ESP Agility Squad travelled to Burlington, NJ this
weekend for two days of agility competition. This gang consisted of the
Dynamic Dalmatian and her honorary Dalmatian Rottweiler pals Levi,
Radar, Bubbles, & Jennie.
The fact that the exhibition grounds were located next to the Burlington
County Fire Training Center should have predicted that there would be
many "crash & burn" performances! On Saturday not one dog qualified in
a total of 9 runs in both standard and JWW classes! The Dastardly
Dalmatian decided that she didn't want to weave and lost out on refusals
in both events!
On Sunday, Jumpin' Jennie started the day off with a bang as she managed
to avoid a total "crash & burn" performance by finding a BLUE satin
parachute to take FIRST place in Novice Standard! Not to be outdone,
Radar rumbled to a qualifying run in Excellent Standard to gain another
Master's leg - unfortunately he missed out on a placing ribbon by a mere
2 seconds! BUT, the day went rapidly downhill as the remaining runs by
Levi, Bubbles, & the Spotted Sensation all resulted in "NQ's"! Levi had
an outstanding run only to lose out by knocking off the last bar.
Bubbles missed a contact zone, and the Duncehead Dalmatian again took
too many refusals on the weave poles to qualify - she also was escorted
from the ring by her handler in an attempt to impart some humility to
Her Haughty Highness! The Mottled Marvel was having a perfect run, no
traps taken, no refusals, no wrong courses, until her weave pole
"allergy" kicked in!!
All in all, a pretty poor performance on a late October weekend in which
the weather and facilties were perfect!
Next weekend, the Downhearted Dalmatian and her Rotty Pals return to
Burlington, NJ for more competition. This will be a crucial weekend as
the season is rapidly coming to a close and the Determined Dalmatian
still is in search of that elusive third leg in both Open Standard and
Open JWW to complete her title!. Jumpin' Jennie can finish her Novice
Standard title, and Levi & Radar can pick up important legs toward their
Master's titles. Needless to say, Team Spot and the ESP crew will be
training intensely this week in anticipation of the upcoming events.
Stay tuned to ASN for updates from the show next weekend as we continue
to bring you the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat!
(P.S. - Spot's Pick of the Week for dining out is Troy's Hoagie Shop,
Benner Pike, between Bellefonte & State College. Seems the best way
there is to cut behind Spot's workplace at Sullivan's Mini Storage,
cross the lot at Restek, and come in from behind. This allows you easy
access to the garbage bin where the Princess found a meal fit for
royalty! -- problem is it made her sick! Needless to say, the Dumpster
Diving Dalmatian is now "DOR" - "dog on rope."
