The Am Staff combines power with grace and agility. He is bright, alert and has boundless courage. He is superbly gentle with children, intensely loyal and affectionate. The Am Staff's endless patience and great tolerance to pain make them a perfect children's companion.

Exercise Requirements

Because of the Am Staff's high energy level and their compact size, they can get a lot of exercise even in an apartment, but they love their outdoor romps and most Am Staffs love water.

For all its virtues, the Am Staff might appear to be the perfect pet for your family. However, ALL Am Staffs need firm handling and should attend obedience classes (or Puppy Socialization classes at a minimum). A correct Am Staff will not go out looking for trouble, but WILL NOT BACK DOWN if trouble presents itself.

The AST is one of the strongest dogs in the world for his size. He exudes self-confidence and is highly intelligent. His very nearly human facial expressions, revealed through his sparkling eyes and alert wrinkles in his forehead, make him both handsome and comical. With sleek coat, muscular body, and agile movement, he is a large dog wrapped in a medium sized package -- enough dog for anyone and too much dog for some.
