Sept. 1998
Hi! This is Molly Brown again. Hot Summer is almost done, and that is good because I get Itchy in the Summer, and then I have to get lots of Baths. Yucko.
I did get to go to Dog Shows last month. We visited at my all-many-brothers-and-relatives house. I went to a show and did the Agility Games. I even did the Very High Climbing. I got Ribbinz and a Fuzzy Toy.
This
is the wrong show, but it is a Pitcher of Me and my People-Mom with some
Agility Jumpings.
My People-Mom was very Surprised that many dogs Goofed in their Games. Luke went too but he did not do the Games. He did Con-Fur-Mation and got some Ribbinz. One Ribbinz said Best of Breed, so Luke thinks he is So Cool. He keeps telling all us Shelties that he is the Best Pappalillion. But he is the Only Pappalillion around here. So that means he is also the Dumbest and Baddest Pappalillion, too. Teasing him makes him Mad!
Then I got to go all alone with my People Mom to the Merrimac Showing House and do the Confusifying Glovuh Games. The Judging Person and the Steward Helper Person kept messing with one of the Glovuhs, so I knew that was the right one. Wrong. Confusified again! But I did get Ribbinz and my People Mom was proud. And many of my Friends did good, but their story is in the Bragging Box.
I have not talked about Learning Games in days and days, because I have Learned Everything. I have a OTCH. But Luke and Bailey are still Learning, so I will talk about them.
One game Luke is Learning is "Ready." When your Person says "Ready" it means, "Pay attention." Usually you will be sitting in the Heeling Spot. You are 'sposed to look up at your Person when they say "Ready."
Your Person will probal'ly have a Treat when you start to learn this game. If you look up, you will get the Treat. Some People use Clickings, and when you look up you will get a Click and then a Treat. This is a Good Game.
If you don't Look Up, or if you Look Away, your Person will say you are Distracted. Distracted means that you might get your leash Popped. Then when you remember and Look Up, you will get your Treat.
Other People might do Strange Things to make you Distracted. Be careful-it's a Fooling Game! Don't get Fooled or you might get Popped! If you keep looking at your Person you might get lots and lots of Treats called a Jackpot. Fooling games are good if you remember how to win and get Treats.
Luke has Trouble with this game. He thinks "Ready" means Jump Up in the Air 'Cuz the Person has a Treat. My People-Mom has to say the Quiet Words: "Luke, Easy, Wait, Ready, Wait..." to get him to sit still. He is still a Puppy so it's OK, but he would get more Treats faster if he would play right! I try to tell him but he won't listen to me. I used to listen to Auntie Missy and I learned Very Fast. But Luke doesn't Respect me too much. I guess it's a Pappalillion thing.
Bailey is Learning the Broad Jump. He did not understand what he was s'posed to do, so my People-Dad had to show him over and over for days and days and days. Bailey Respects me pretty good, and I tried to tell him how to do the Broad Jump, but he just didn't get it. He is not Too Smart for a Sheltie. Finally, he figured it out. He still needs help sometimes, and my People-Dad will put up Bars and Poles and Chutes to help him. But he is getting better. My People-Dad wants to show him soon! I may have to threaten to Bite Bailey if he is Dumb at the shows. It worked last Spring!
Be Good and Work Hard until next time,
Love,
Molly B.
