Kiwi was born somewhere in November 1997. He came to live with us on January 6, 1998. It was the first day of the big ice strom that paralized Montreal for a few days (and the south shore of the island for over a month!!!).

Kiwi is a Nanday conure, and Nandays are known for their very loud voices. He's not the exception to the rule!!! Fortunately, Kiwi rarely screams. He greats me with a few screeches when I come back from work but he quickly quiets down.

Because of their bad reputation, I did not want to have a conure as a companion, but when I saw this little baby bird at the pet store, my perception changed. I had to have him*. He was so cute and so quiet (sic) compared to the Meyers with whom he was sharing his cage. So I adopted him. It was love at first sight. I never regretted it. He's very playful, active, and also very funny. Of course, he's also noisy at times, but his peronality makes up for the noise level!!!

* Never buy a bird on an impulse. Read, talk to breeders, ask questions to bird owners, search the different species so you can find one that will suit your way of life. Once you know which bird would be the best for you, find a reputable breeder and when it's possible let the baby bird choose you. Always buy a weaned bird unless you are an experienced "hand-feeder".
