Hi Mike! Spent a few wonderful years with Gallenkamp around the Sacramento, CA area. Any of these names ring bells? Lou Rossi, Leroy Villines...or my Uncle...Virgil Calandri? It was a fantastic experience that taught me a lot about selling and gave me a very firm foundation. Thanks SCOA!

When were you aboard FDR?: Mar. 1956-Nov. 1957
Division, Squadron, or Company: V-6

Comments:
I was there for the recommissioning at Bremerton Naval Shipyard, WA in 1956. I was ships company, an ET in V-6. In Nov. 1957 I was transferred to a smaller,"jeep", carrier for the trip back to Quonset Point, RI where I was discharged in Dec. 1957. I h ve often wondered what happened to the old girl, now I know. I really liked the picture. I don't remember the forward starboard elevator though. The FDR lost a blade from one of the screws in 56 or 57 too. We had to go into drydock at the Norfolk ship ard to have a new one installed. Those screws (4) were huge! Thanks for the memories.

I was just surfin' the Web for news about CVA-42, hopping it was lucky like the Intrepid, but no such luck. If any of you guys are out there from VA-176 Power Plants, I would love to hear from you. It's funny how nostalgic I can get over a time that seeme so screwed up going through it like we did. It was a blast. I was as ADJ2 working Check Crew (around the clock). For the Pilots, I was the one with all the extra parts on my tool cart. Ken, Bob, Don, Mr. Marquis, Rod, I hope you find this site someday.

Med cruse-1970. if the info you have on the scrap statice of the ship is true, them it saddens me. The last reserch I made on carriers showed that cva42 was sold, not sold for scrap, usualy when they sell a ship in that fashion it lists as "sold for scrap . Any ways thanks for the picture, all I have is on board poloraids that I took from the bridge.
