Comments:
Congratulations Chief Diamante, USN, and all other Navy LIs in standing up such a wonderful and informative site. This, hopefully, will keep you all electronically connected for numerous common causes. Although I never served as a uniformed Navy LI, I h ve been associated with Navy LI support since 1974. Back then I was the Director, NPPS running the Base Print Shop on the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. While at GTMO for four years I had the honor of having numerous LIs work with me in getting the GTMO Gazette published daily and, of course, doing whatever it took to satify the demanding printing and copying requirements of NAVBASE and NAVSTA, NAVAIRSTA, FTG, SMF, and other tenant commands and Afloat and Reserve Units. Back then Randy Hoar (ret LI ) was a LI2, Rudy Assitores was a LI1, and Rick Steg was a LI3. Bob Lindquist was the Production Manager there and he was then retired as an LICS. I later went to serve at the NPPS HQ in the Washington Navy Yard off the Anacostia River. I was fortunate to become Branch Head of the Fleet Support Programs which included responsibilities of LI Rating Sponsorship, the Shipboard Copier Program and Life ycle Manager for Afloat Print Shops, wqorking with NAVSEA on New Construction and Overhauls of Afloat Print Shop. Working with the LI Community Manager at BUPERS and the Defense Mapping Agency we were able to reopen the LI Class "A" School at Defense Map ing School. LICM Portt, Ret., (then a LICS) was the Chief Instructor at the South Post, Fort Belvoir, VA facility. Working with NPPS/DPS/DAPS Fleet Coordinators like Ms. Lorrie Mruk and Mr. San Giacomo, I sponsored numerous LI conferences in Norfolk and San Diego. At these forums LIs were able to contribute to the improvement and modernization of the rating and the print shops. They also got high tech demos from vendors that were able to help the CINCs in modernizing the Operating Forces. I'd pass along other LI related stories in future visits to this web site, if you are interested. In the mean time, have fun with this site. I'd like to hear from you. Best wishes to all LIs, Mike Nepi 9102 Wood Spice Lane Lorton, VA 22079 (703) 643-9021

Love the sight. What a great idea! Upon reading some of the others comments, I notice a lot of talk of "A" schools. When I came in the Navy, we didn't have such a thing called "A" school. In fact the only time I was ever lied to by a recruiter was him p omising me a genuine Navy Lithographer "A" school which didn't exist. Today I laugh about it. You new Lithographers have it good. I would love to hear from someone that has attended the school. It would be interesting to hear your about your experience. Outstanding site, good to see some names on the list that I have had the distinct pleasure of serving with. (John as one of them at CINCLANTFLT) Four years on Indy then the balance as a Navy Reservist, with a brief recall for Desert Shield/Storm (DIA Wash ngton DC), yes they actually needed a Navy Lithographer during Desert Storm. Indeed I share the sentiments with most of you that the finest Navy job is that of a Lithographer. Not easy making rate, but Id never change the rate, no matter how many Career ounselors try to convince me. (and how many of us have heard that). Keep up the great work here, if ever there is anything I can contribute feel free to contact me. To those who I have had the pleasure to serve with, please feel free to email me. Occupation: Retired Printing Officer
Comments:

After retirement in 1973 I never got to far from the Navy. I accepted a job at Booz-Allen applied research as the Printing Supervisor. In 1977 I applied for a job with Civil Service and went to work as a Printing Specialist at the Naval Data Automati n Command. This is where I met my wife an Ensign who will retire December '98. She received orders in 1979 to the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Ca. There I worked as a Printing Press Operator. When we returned to Washington I accepted a job as Prin ing Specialist at the U.S. Military Sealift Command. In 1979 I accepted a job as Printing Officer for the Army Intelligence and Threat Analysis Command. We were in Wisconsin for a few years and have been in Pensacola for five and after my wife's retiremen we will be heading to MN.

John, this is a great idea (us oldtimers wish we all had computers in the 60's) Keep the LI Association going and one day I hopefully will get to one of the meetings I would not mind running into some of the LI's I worked with.

Best job in the Navy Lithography (my opinion). If I can help in any way let me know.

Hi guys, retired for over a year now and enjoying life in the rural city. For any of my past shipmates still in, my address is up. Send e-mail or snail mail. Hope to see many of you at the convention in Nov. at Daytona Beach with the LI Association. I'm p anning on attending if I can get some time off. By the way, I'm working at a newspaper and they use Macs exclusively. I hate them, so I work in the stripping and platemaking department, don't forget how to make negs yet. Smooth sailing. jm
