Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words.

CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS FATHER JOHN J. HICKEY POST 731 AND CORSAC HOME ASSOCIATION NEWS |
|
General membership meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month starting at 7:30 PM for members. CWV Officers meet before the general membership meeting at 7:00 PM sharp. The CORSAC Home Association Board of Directors meets every other month, on the third Wednesday of the month, at 7:00 PM. Next Membership Meeting: April 7th Next CORSAC Board of Officers Meeting: April 21st A BRIEF STATUS UPDATE Post 731 has undergone major change in recent weeks. Due to personal commitments of current officers and other factors, we have not had general membership meetings the past two months. This, in addition to some recent changes in the officer ranks, has made it difficult preparing the Short Sheet. In an effort to address these changes, I'll continue to publish officer reports as I receive them. I'll supplement future editions within the limitations of my personal schedule and commitments. Recent articles like those addressing veterans benefits, personal honors, and CWV events are the type I think draw the most interest. I'll be searching my "archives" for input that I've received from some of our members in the past. If you have an interesting article or bit of CWV news, please forward them to me either via the Post or by mailing to my home address, 320 Ivy Rock Lane, Havertown, PA 19083. For the immediate future, I'll do what I can to keep future editions interesting and informative. THE APRIL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Speaking of change, some major decisions need to be made in order to keep the Post running. Some of these decisions will likely be discussed at the April meeting. The Post has been struggling in recent years, and long-serving volunteers are in need of a well-deserved break. The opportunity to have a major voice in the future of our Post has never been greater. Hope to see you there! 3RD VICE COMMANDER'S REPORT Ernie Beck The annual Spelling Bee was held at Post 731 on Sunday, February 21st, at 2:00 PM. Fourteen 7th and 8th grade students from eight Catholic schools participated in the contest, accompanied by some 50 parents, teachers, and friends. The winner was Brianne Orner of St. Bernadette School. She was awarded a trophy for First Place and a $50 cash prize. Brianne will compete in the state contest to be held on March 6th in Pottsville, PA, and Post 731 will provide her with expense money to help pay for the trip. Good Luck, Brianne! The Second Place winner was Trevor Echelmeier of St. Dennis School. Trevor was awarded a trophy and a $30 cash prize. Third Place went to Sean Connor of St. Andrews School. Sean received a trophy and a $15 cash award. A warm "Thank You" to Bob Rachor who served as Enunciator and to Ben Rodini and Stan Bodalski who served as judges in the contest. Giving of their time and expertise was a BIG help in making the Spelling Bee a success. Also, a word of thanks goes out to our Commander, Fred Steigerwalt, and his son, Jeffrey, for making the lounge area a proper setting for the Spelling Bee. The contest turned out perfect! Our historian, Charlie Demeo, took pictures of the contest and the participants for the History book. We thank you, Charlie - you always do a great job! Refreshments were also served to the participants and their families. "Late Bulletin": Brianne did not win at Pottsville, but made it to the third round. WELFARE OFFICER'S REPORT - Tom Loftus Please keep the following members and their families in your prayers as they recuperate from their illnesses, injuries, and losses: Joe Hamilton, Mary Rodrian, Jimmy Wood, and John Moore. Post 731 lost member, William McNasby, and friend, Kathleen Smith. Our condolences go out to their families and friends. |

BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE |
|
We had 65 donors at the February 25th blood drive at Sacred Heart Church. With a quota of 48, we provided an extra 17 donors to the Red Cross. Special thanks to the all the members and committee helpers who assisted with the blood drive. CASINO TRIP UPDATE In lieu of recent tragedies involving bus accidents, we decided to double-check on liability issues. While we are not suspending all future casino trips, we thought it best to research the issue in more detail before we sponsor the next trip. Casino trips were a major source of fund raising in years past. Amongst all the other activities the Post needs volunteers for, we could certainly use some assistance with planning the next trip. LADIES AUXILIARY REPORT - Madam President Kay Farrell A heartfelt thanks to Pat Brown and Jan Zampino for the casino trip in January. It was a great day socially, weather wise, and financially. Congratulations to the Committee for the 50th Anniversary of our Post 731 Auxiliary. Under the helm of Chairman, Jo Sheridan, they are doing a super job! Reminder - 11:00 PM Adoration on Good Friday, April 2nd, for all Auxiliary members who can make it. Above all, always keep our deceased veterans during this Holy Season of Lent in your prayers. Just as Christ died to assure us of entrance into heaven, these brave men and women died to ensure that we are free. God Bless, Kay. 1st Vice President Pat Brown Retreat - Once again the Auxiliary has planned a Day of Recollection at Saint Raphael Mary Retreat House. The program starts at 9:00 AM and is over at about 3:00 PM. The date is Thursday, March 11th, and the donation is $20.00. This is a wonderful opportunity during Lent to focus on the Lord and prepare for Easter. Please call Pat Brown 449-2419 to make your reservation. Thanks to all who donated Valentines for the Vets. VETERANS BENEFITS UPDATE In the January edition of the Short Sheet, we inadvertently reported that the VA outpatient clinic at 1489 Baltimore Pike, Springfield, PA, is located across from the Granite Run Mall. It is located outside the Springfield Mall. A simple map (not to scale) is provided below: |

CWV National Convention Date: August 15 - 22, 1999 The April-May-June 99 issue of the Catholic War Veterans will contain reservation and convention event forms. Thank You Each Easter season I pause and thank God for the many blessings he has bestowed upon me and my family. Part of that blessing was my introduction to the Father John J. Hickey family. Your dedication to God and the Catholic Church is an inspiration to me and all who have had an opportunity to know you. Thank you for your guidance when I didn't know how to proceed, your patience when I needed a little encouragement, and your example of the pride and honor of service to the Catholic War Veterans. Thank you and God bless you. Danny Back to the CWV Post 731 home page |
