SCR-584

The SCR-584, which stood for "Signal Corps, Radar" was one of the very first
radar systems. Developed during World War II, when the US air "arm" was
the Army Air Corps, this Echo band system was employed primarily as a coastal defense
system. As a fire control radar, Anti-Aircraft Artillery was "slaved" to
the radar. Where the radar pointed, the guns pointed. This system later
evolved into the AN/MPS-9.
