The MSQ-46 Bomb Scoring Radar was an India band automatic tracking radar operating in the 8500 to 9600 MHz frequency range. The radar had an 8 foot diameter fresnel lens rather than a parabolic dish. The lens provided improved low-level tracking of aircraft. Ground clutter, meaning returns caused by abnormalities in the earth's terrain or trees, etc. did not affect a radar with a lens as bad as a radar with a parabolic dish. The "46" was a descendent of the MSQ-39 system. The major difference was the increased range capability over the "39".
