AN/MPS-T1 G band (Golf)...

(Steven Jones photo)

This system was based on a Russian Surface to Air Missile (SAM) system. It employed trough antennas, one for azimuth and one for elevation, along with a parabolic dish for uplink missile guidance. The dual parabolic dishes mounted on top differentiate it from the E/F (Echo/Fox) band system upon first glance.  Of course, there are more differences, but that is the first visual clue.  The additional dishes allowed "Mode 3" operation which was a higher power output mode.  It operated in the Golf frequency bands; approximately 3000 Mhz.
