Mark NBC Contaminate Area

Task 031-503-1021

Conditions

Given an area where NBC weapons have been used. Your are in the appropriate MOPP level. You have NBC Markers (radiological, biological, and chemical), grease pencil, information necessary to fill out a marker for each type of contamination, the means to hold the markers in place, and a designated location for the sign.

Standards

1. Select the appropriate marker based on information provided.

2. Record the required information on the marker.

3. Emplace the marker.

In warm and hot weather watch for signs of any heat illnesses while in MOPP Level 4.

Training/Evaluation

Training Information Outline

1. Once contamination has been located and identified in an area, the area must be marked to warn friendly troops. Markers must be placed where they can be easily be seen.

��a. Radiological contamination. Prepare the marker labeled ATOM.

��(1) Print all information on the front side of th marker so that the word ATOM is facing toward you in an upright position.

��(2) Print the dose rate in centigray per hour (cGyph).

��(3) Print the date and time (local or ZULU, state which).

��(4) Print the date and time (local or ZULU, state which) of detonation, if known. (If the date and time is not known, print UNKNOWN).

��b. Biological contamination. Prepare marker labeled BIO.

��(1) Print all information on the front side of th marker so that the word BIO is facing toward you in an upright position.

��(2) Print type of agent detected. (if unknown, print the word UNKNOWN).

��(3) Print the date of detection beneath the agent type.
��(4) Print the time (local or ZULU, state which)of detection beneath the date of detection.

��c. Chemical contamination. Prepare marker labeled GAS>

��(1) Print all information on the front side of th marker so that the word GAS is facing toward you in an upright position.

��(2) Print type of agent detected. (if unknown, print the word UNKNOWN).

��(3) Print the date and time (local or ZULU, state which) of dtection beneath the type of agent detected.

��(3) Brown - for all relief features (usually shown as contour lines) on old maps, or cultivated land on red-light readable maps.

2. Position marker so that the recorded information faces away from the the area of contamination and the marker can be easily seen.

��a. Attach the marker to objects such as trees or poles, so that they will be easily visible from all probable routes through the contaminated area.

��b. Place each marker so that the next one can be seen from the one just emplaced.

��c. For radiological contamination place markers at the location where dose rate is measured at 1 cGyph or more.

Evaluation Preparation

Setup: Use simulants to produce contaminated enviroment for CB agents. When requiring a marker for radiological contamination, tell the soldier the amount of radiation present.

Feedback

Score the soldier a GO if all steps are passed (P).
