Food & Drink
We all like to eat to one degree or another, and some of us even like to cook. Here are some of my favorite sites that relate to eating, drinking, and cooking.
EatingThere is a gentleman in New Orleans by the name of Tom Fitzmorris. He is a leading food critic, author, and cook. His radio program is heard daily at 4:00 pm on WSMB Radio (1350 AM). He has just opened his own web site where you can read his latest newsletter and lots more.
Menu Magazine. Be advised however, that his site is also under construction.A man that I am fortunate enough to call a friend, is a very well known radio and television personality in New Orleans. You can see him on Chanel 4 (WWL TV). Frank Davis is an excellent cook, who has authored a number of cookbooks (available here), and outdoorsman, and an expert on things New Orleans. Visit his personal site at
Frank Davis. Let him know that you got his link from "taxman". If you would like to purchase his cookbooks through this site, I've made arrangements with AMAZON.COM to provide a significant discount over the publishers price Order Frank Davis Cooks Cajun, Creole, and Crescent City, Frank Davis Cooks Naturally N'Awlins or The Frank Davis Seafood Notebook. If you enjoy watching and learning from the televised cooking shows, here are some suggestions: One of my favorites is Life, Love & Lunch! (All I need to do now is figure out my VCR so I can tape it.) This local New Orleans program features local chefs in a very entertaining and informative format. Justin Wilson - what more need be said. One of the premier food sites on the web is
EPICURIOUS. Looking for a place to eat? You might want to check out some of these: In the French Quarter there is The Gumbo Shop, Mr. B's Bistro, Court of Two Sisters, Brennans, Redfish Cafe, and Antoines. Still in New Orleans, but not in the Quarter, is what some have called the finest restaurant in the world. No stay in New Orleans is complete without a visit to Commanders Palace. Most places in the United States, people go grocery shopping, but here in New Orleans, we "make groceries." One of the best places that I can think of to make groceries is Martins Wine Celar.
Around the country
Virginia Located in Wakefield, the Virginia Diner is a stop that you must make. Good food, friendly service, and a fair price. Don't forget their gift shop - particularly if you like peanuts.
