Brief Summary of the Story
In 1950, during the early months of the Korean Conflict, Navy Captain Hal Kirby, Air Group Commander on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge, is presented with many challenges. They are life changing experiences that impact his professional and personal life in ways he could not imagine. His career, marriage, sanity and life will all be threatened during the course of a few months.
The North Korean Army wants South Korea and Kirby as well. An old rival, Lieutenant Commander Garr, desperately wants to settle an old score with Kirby. Garr�s assignment to the USS Valley Forge sets in motion a series of events designed to disgrace Kirby and the Navy.
Kirby, an unknowing victim of government corruption, is thrust deep into an international incident involving the Soviet Union. He calls upon every particle of grit and ingenuity in his soul to survive.
