I can't get over how cute this little guy is. ..... I took this one day when i skipped school to hang out with my cousins at someMapuche village school in the country. This was a part of the group that i was assigned to, they were in first grade but ranged from the ages of 4-9. A brief history on the Mapuche people, they are the indegionous people that the Europeans civilized/ sacked and plundered..in order to make way for change. The government has never been very supportive of their ways, and at a side not, there is a big population here in Temuco. Right now a problem that has arrisen from the people, is that in the schools the children are not learning their heritage language, which is Mapuchanga (Spelling)..instead they are being taught French, German or English. Now to be realistic....how often are these children, that come from poverished conditions....(Many don't have electricity, water system, their parents still work the land with oxen and sheths to cut the grain, grass, etc.....) Going to get the opportunity to use thier language skills, and besidse, by not being taught their native language, they will loose a large part of their culture....Which is not what the Mapuches want to happen.
