An excellent site, well done. Being a WW2 fanatic when I was a teenager I must have read every book that was written about Colditz and every other POW camp. I still have the game in fairly good condition, my 12 year old son is facinated by it. I have al ays hoped they would repeat the BBC series but was told the royalties for the cast would cost too much. Is this true? I hope to one day visit the castle, I never thought it p[ossible as a child because it was behind the Iron Curtain. Thanks for old memories

Loved the site. I grew up playing the board game and thought I would do a little searching. Does anyone know if the game still exists or whether or not it is still available somewhere? Brings back alot of memories...

Great site. My grandparents have the board game "Escape from Colditz Castle" and it came with a copy of the origonal notice issued to P.O.Ws that escaping was no longer a sport. Been facinated by the castle ever since playing the game. Great site!

My Father was Walter Marks Of the 77th Tank Batallion which liberated the city of Culditz. A first Lieutenant, I was not aware that Colditz was such a notorious prisioner of war camp. I am assuming that because there were allied prisoners, not American, t ere is not much interest here in the states- I never knew that the BBC had made a series about prisoner life and the attempted escapes of the officers. I am attempting to get my father's service record, which may take awhile.Any information about surviving prisioners would be helpful as I would like to contact them about the liberation. Maybe some of them met my father and had a few drinks with him! Thank you for any information.

Congratualtions on a fascinating and very well produced site. My wife, nephew Andrew Buckley and myself unexpectedly found ourselves in Colditz on 4 January during a visit to a friend in the nearby town of Burgstadt in Saxony: it was an extraordinary expe ience to visit somewhere so crucial to the history of the modern world, and indeed which sums up so much of human character (the desire for freedom etc). We were all surprised that the local authorities appear not to realise what a potential tourist attra tion the castle and the town of Colditz are. We have since learned that Disney Corporation plan to buy Colditz Castle -- is this true? (I hope not). Also the Colditz Brewery has closed. Again, congratulations for the site and thanks for the effort which h s obviously gone into sharing information through its construction. CHRIS BATES

In your introductory essay, you refer to "Stooge Wradle". I believe that this is incorrect. Both of Pat Reid's books refer to "Stooge Wardle". There is an interesting documentary on the Colditz story with interviews of a number of the former prisoners - British, 1993. The original film (not the TV mini-series) from 1952 is also available on video. Pat Reid was the technical advisor for the film (based on his book); John Mills played the part of Reid. Interesting site! Many Thanks.

Nice photos! I have a great interest in Colditz. About 25 years ago I corresponded with many former POW's - including Airey Neave. I managed a visit to Colditz several years ago. Saw the 'radio shack' in the roof. Dick Howe gave me a forged document which came from there during the 1974 visit.

I am extremely impressed by this site. You may be interested to learn that Channel 4 has made a documentary about the castle featuring re-constructions of escapes to be shown early next year. I'm TV Editor at Teletext, by the way. I'd love to get in touch with any veterans who helped make the programmes.

I'm the nephew of Captain Tom Elliott (Durham Light Infantry formerly a Northumberland Fusilier) who was captured when the regiment, along with the 15th Highlanders, was sacrificed to fight the oncoming german army unaware that the remainder of the britis army were being evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk. After escaping from three camps he was finally taken to Colditz, as a persistent escaper, where, not for the want of trying (see Reinhold Eggers book) he saw out the remainder of the war. Due to this connection I am extremely interested in anything Colditz and have thoroughly enjoyed your excellent site. Thank you.

Excellent site. I visited the castle in 91 or 92, having read Pat Reid's and Mr Egger's books as well as seeing TV series & films etc. They were not set up for visitors at much although a small guided tour (in German) was much appreciated by my wife an I plus a handful of others. (Amazed at the small spaces the Chapel tunnel occupied ! - Plus the long term strategy of cultivating woodworm in the attics !). The small museum in the town was pretty good - model of the glider, samples of duplicate unifor s and weapons made by the prisoners etc. I thought the interactive map idea was great. KD
