Observations, Can you believe half of what you see?

Part II

You may not believe any of these things that I saw. Some of these things are ramblings that I lament and wonder about.

"Type I
Shortening
made from hydrogenated
deodorized vegetable oil
manufactured by
cal-western packaging
corporation"
This is the label from a can of vegetable oil. My first reaction, when I read it, was, "WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO DEODORIZE VEGETABLE OIL?" What did they use to deodorize it? Why would I want to eat food cooked in something that had to be deodorized? Are they too cheap to buy Crisco?

Who said "rest" means "training?" Sunday, Sabath, day or rest / training. CO #1 says rest, and someone schedules training. Nothing puts a Nuke to sleep faster than training. Problem is they yell at you when you go there. Even if they ignore you sleeping, you have to get up when the training is over to go to bed. Why have the training if half the people there are going to go to sleep? Out of the 144 hours during the last six days of the week, we couldn't squeeze in the required training, we had to let it roll over to the first day of the next week? Are we scheduling too much training then?

I've been in the Navy for 15 years. I served 30 months in a Nuclear Repair division on a submarine tender. I served 36 months in a Nuclear Repair division at the Nuclear Submarine Support Facility. NOW I can not do any maintenance until I complete the NEW craftsman qualification card. B-LL-HIT! What other new qual cards are coming? AIR BREATHER? CAR DRIVER? ASS WIPER? Most of the time, crap like this is just somebody's idea of job justification. Some idiot some where decides he has to make it better to show that he made a difference. Some moron knows that if there is no appearance that he made it better, he may not get promoted. His idea of making it better is adding new requirements, of finding new more painful ways to enforce existing ones. GET A REAL LIFE!

He is a Nuclear Engineer. LCDR US NAVY. He is feeding his giga pet. I don't need to write anything here, do I.

Nightmare I had. Send our dress uniforms to COB's buddies on west coast so they can stand a uniform inspection. I get yelled at for asking why they didn't have their own uniforms. The saddest part of this is that I actually dreamed that. That is to say that in my realm of reality as I saw it, that could actually have happened. The worst part of that would be that there would have been no recourse for me except compliance. This is the ammount of control they put over you, more if you are weak and let them.

Who should be the last person to write MEAN PEOPLE SUCK NICE PEOPLE SWALLOW' on his FSA hat? We had an individual assigned to our ship that claimed he was having a dream about his girl friend performing oral sex with him. He claimed that when he opened his eyes, the guy who sleeps next to him was admistering some sort of "ORAL STIMULATION" to his genetal area. At first, it looks as a rape, but as time goes by, the rapist finds out how much trouble he is in so he changes his story. The "VICTIM" is very upset about that. There comes a huge investigation. The "RAPIST" gets busted. During this whole investigation, the "VICTIM" stays on. After it is all over, he stays on. We are getting ready to leave for a while, suddenly the "VICTIM" has a problem sleeping on the boat. He can't handle being so close to all the other guys.

Silver dolphin flag on the bulletin board with five sets of dolphins pinned thru it. The dolphins have names and past dates. We have these qualification cards. They have different systems listed on them and you have to learn what they do, where they are, everything. When you can tell someone else everything about that system, that person signs the card indicating that you know all about it. You are required to get so many signatures per week. If you fall behind, you are placed on a delinquent list and have to put in extra study hours at work until you get caught up. We used to post this list where everyone could see it. The COB decided that was humiliating so he forbid the posted list. The COB then put the flag and pins on the board. That wasn't humiliating at all... DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO!

I am watching MM1 trying to convince ET1 to attempt to orally stimulate his own penis. MM1 saw ET1. ET1 was BIG. MM1 was impressed. MM1 wanted to know what ET1 could do with that thing. ET1 didn't answer a whole lot. MM1 kept asking questions.

A reactor operator was relieved by a food service attendant for a break. We don't have people on the sub whose only job is to wash dishes. They take extra people trained for other things and put them in the galley for a while. Only in the navy can you be washing dishes on minute, then sitting at a panel controling a nuclear reactor the next.

Would my detailer have a hard time filling SSN billets if they were in Charleston SC, like he does now with the billets in Groton? I was stationed in Charleston for almost five years. Something extremely horrible happened there, so for personnel reasons, I hate that place. When BRAC announced that Charleston would close, I was happy, laughing, and unpopular. Laughing at town people of this was sort of cold and cruel, but I hated them and everything for what happened to me there. I come up for orders and find out all that is available on the east coast is GROTON. After a month there, I realize that Charleston was great. The people were fantastic, the cost of living was way less, they was so much more to do, and the base was nicer. GROTON SUCKS! I would go back to Charleston in a minute. Why they closed that place to save money and keep this poop-hole open is beyond me. Rumor has it that it would cost to much to clean up this alleged environmental disaster area. They certainly aren't saving money paying me what it cost to live here vice what it cost to live in Charleston. So many people must hate it here that my detailor (THEY GUY WHO SENDS YOU ORDERS TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO) is having a very hard time finding volunteers to come here.

Why do we danger tag a valve lockwired shut? If you were going to open a seawater system to fix something, you would isolate what you were going to open from the ocean. This way water doesn't come flooding in when when you take the thing apart. We isolate the system and put red DANGER TAGS on the isolations we don't want anyone to open because we are working on the system. It is commonly known that if something has a DANGER TAG on it, you don't touch it or you are in huge trouble. So why attach lockwire to prevent the operation of such a valve? Like I am going to walk up to it and say "I KNOW IT HAS A DANGER TAG, BUT I WILL OPERATE IT ANYWAY. WAIT - IT HAS LOCKWIRE ON IT - NEVER MIND. I'M TOO LAZY TO GO GET WIRE CUTTERS."

MM2 lost his advance party after months of taking it up the... getting screwed because he had advance party. New CO says he won't apologize for command screw up that wasn't his. At every turn, anytime there was a good deal to be had, MM2 was immediately out of the picture. If he asked for anything special, like leave, he was denied because he was going to be on advance party and not be with the boat for two months. He had his move set up, all ready to go. He had paid for advance party with everything he could have taken advantage of closed to him. Got a new CO. New CO, new policies, new minimum manning requirements. MM2's last school was nuke school. He has been poked every way. He plans on getting out. Wonder why.
