O.K., I'M HERE!!....NOW, WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME?
Great question!! Now, here's the "million dollar" answer:
The Royal Canadian Cadets are striving to be a major player in the world of drum corps. Chief amongst our goals is to become an extension of the unit-level & provincial music programmes that you are currently involved in, & to offer those that have the desire, the ability to work hard (and believe me, drum corps is HARD, FUN WORK!!), ENJOY TRAVELLING, having fun, who believe that they are (or who want to be) "the best of the best," an opportunity to prove that on a nightly basis, against equal or even superior competition, as a member of "Canada's Best." This is the beginning piece of a national drum & bugle corps programme, but will, IN NO WAY diminish any current or future Cadet Music Programmes (such as The Prairie Provinces' Spring Band Tour, or the Ontario Provincial Band Programme at CFBs Trenton & Borden). Any cadet who is selected for membership in The Royal Canadian Cadets, & currently is active in such activity is , and will be HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to continue in said programme. All that is asked of the cadet is to give the corps sufficient time between obligations--The Royal Canadian Cadets will make ample opportunity to honour such activities, & still continue to field a top-quality, world class drum & bugle corps.
NOW I'M CURIOUS....AND INTERESTED!!!
Good. That's what I'm hoping for!! One of The Royal Canadian Cadets' major purposes is to allow those who want to, the opportunity to increase their knowledge of others, entertain THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, represent Canada well, as well as increase their own self-worth through the art of music (The last purpose is to become the first CANADIAN drum & bugle corps to win the coveted Drum Corps International "Summer Music Games" Division I World Championship). Over the next 6 months, a decision will have been made as to which province (along with Metro Toronto) will have the honour of being the first hosts of The Royal Canadian Cadets in the year 2000, our "Premiere Season."
SOUNDS GREAT!! WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO NOW?!?!?
Believe it or not, this is the easy part! All you have to do is decide which section of the corps you would like to be in, and which instrument you play (or would like to play, if you play something different). Once you decide that, just click on the link at the bottom of the page; it will take you to the Candidate Application Form. Just fill it out & submit it; all responces will be receipted within 24-48 hours (the sections & instruments in a drum & bugle corps are listed below):
BRASS Soprano Bugle Alto Bugle French Horn Bugle Mellophone Bugle Baritone Bugle Euphonium Bugle Contrabass Bugle
PERCUSSION Snare Drum Multi-Tenor Drum (Quads/Quints/"Squints") Bass Drum Cymbals Tympani Mallet/Auxilliary Percussion
COLOUR GUARD Flag Rifle Sabre Dance
(If you have any previous marching or drum corps experience, (other than Cadets), please list that as well. If you have none, never fear...we'll teach you! :>)
NOTE TO ANY CADETS CURRENTLY MARCHING WITH A DRUM CORPS: If you are currently a member of a drum corps that is a member of DCI, ODCA (Ontario Drum Corps Association) or DCM (Drum Corps Midwest), & you would like to become a "Charter Member" of The Royal Canadian Cadets, you MUST be "released" from that corps NO LATER THAN 01 MAR 2000 in order to be eligible for membership in The Royal Canadian Cadets.
