Something to think about. . .

Heaven's Entrance Exam

A man dies and goes to heaven. At the pearly gate, he is met by St. Peter who tells him,        "Here's how it works.  You need 1000 points to make it into heaven.  You tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was.  When you reach 1000 points, you get in."

"Okay," the man says. "I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her one, not even in my heart."

"That's wonderful," says St. Peter. "That's worth three points!"

"Three points?" the man says. "Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and my services."

"Terrific!" says St. Peter. "That's certainly worth a point."

"One point?  Well, I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans."

"Fantastic, that's good for two more points," says St. Peter.

"Two points!" the man cries.  "At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God!"

"Come on in!" St. Peter says.

Perhaps this story reminds you a little of yourself.  It is true that God wants us to be good people, to lead loving and caring lives.  But too often, we get so wound up in doing good deeds, that we forget that the key to salvation and eternal life is faith, and faith alone.  Good deeds are how we show the world Jesus.  We should do good deeds, but be careful that your reason for doing good is the right reason.  Living a good life, without faith, will lead nowhere.
