44th BOMB SQUADRON
1998 REUNION
BRANSON, MO.

1998 Reunion Highlights:

Members of the 44th Bomb Squadron held a very successful mini reunion in Branson, Missouri, on October 16, 17, and 18. This had been publicized on the Wing Website as well as the SAC Society Website. Members came from far and near. The Stansels, Ken and Sally came from Omaha, the Fryes, Paul and Madeline came from New York, Bud and Linda East from Florida, Benny and Betty Moore from Mississippi and Lou and Ivis Stevens from Arizona just to mention a few, to reunite with old friends of yesteryear.

Our thanks go to Jim Diamond and Sally, who organized the gathering earlier on, scouting for a good moderately priced motel. In Branson where feet are often faster than wheels, we appreciated being in easy walking distance of the IMAX, McFarlain's and some of the more popular shows, restaurants, and craft shops. Dedicated shoppers formed small groups to visit both the regular and outlet malls a little farther afield.

Since Jim had adopted a loosely organized visit, always better for a small group in a small town, members could choose their own entertainment and make their own way. Most people had arrived by car, and those who hadn't were invited to share a ride.

With the group package, Jim had arranged for us to use a large conference room Friday night and all day Saturday and evening, where members could come and go. We could watch videos, see slide shows, look at photo albums and books, or just visit with old friends and reminisce about those long ago days in the 44th. Judging by the amount of laughter and general hilarity these reminiscences produced, those anecdotes were funnier in hindsight than the earlier reality - nostalgia added its magical glow.

We are all grateful to Jim and Sally for the pre-planning, and to Don Carey for the work he has done, indeed continues to do, in keeping the 40th Web site up-to-date and expanding its scope. Don does rely on information from members, so keep sending him facts, figures, and anecdotes.

Again thanks to everyone who came to help make the occasion one of good times, good fun, and good memories.

Now! Does anyone have any ideas for a similar meeting in some other place some time in the future?
