Below is a daily accounting of a Law Enforcement Officers routines on the job. The identity of the officer will remain anonymous in accordance with his or her wishes. The entries are available for viewing as soon as I get them.
MESSAGE FROM LAWMAN; I would appreciate any email comments. It would be a source of motivation for me to continue this page. Please use the email link at the bottom of this page. I will try to respond and WILL read them all, complementary or otherwise (Believe it or not, there are really people that dont like police! :) Thanks.....
"On average, one law enforcement
officer is killed somewhere in America nearly every other
day. More than 65,000 are assaulted
each year and about 23,000 are injured. Today, well over
700,000 sworn officers
put their lives on the line for our protection each and everyday."
"83% of the officers killed in the
line of duty wasn't wearing body armour. 67% of them could
have survived if they were. 25% was killed with their own weapon."
Being that this is my first entry I feel its appropriate to tell a little about me. I have been a Law Enforcement Officer for about 10 years. I have loved the job for the most part, but could do without some of the undesirable memories the job has created.
The primary reason I agreed to do this diary on the internet is so people can get some idea of what Law Enforcement Officers are thinking and feeling from day to day. The anonymity of myself ensures that I can speak freely without fear of reprisal from my agency. I also find this to be a source of stress relief for myself.
I also wanted to do something to make others understand we as Police Officers are not superhumans. People, I have found, often expect us to be perfect even though we ourselves are drawn from society. I put my pants on the same way as most, feet first. When I get hit, I bleed, and when I face danger, I get scared. It would be nice if society would not look at Law Enforcement Officers as a single entity, because we are seperate individuals, complete with human emotions and feelings....

Today was steady as far as calls went. The most notable incident today came out of a traffic stop. I arrested the driver for Driving While Impaired and Possession of Cocaine. Due to the drivers use of cocaine he developed a life-threatening medical condition that came on rather sudden. During the fingerprinting process he says, "I cant breath." He was admitted to the hospital.
Other calls included breaking into a vehicle, fights in progress. I am off for the next few days, check back Friday.

Today was rather uneventful for a Thursday night. The highlight was an accident. The driver that was NOT at fault was suspended (his license) for his fourth DWI. He got a ticket. I should say that he had not been drinking this time.
Tommorrow is Friday, Fridays are never dull. Stay tuned.....

As promised today was fascinating. First I arrested a DWI suspect. First saw him driving north in the southbound lanes of one our major streets. After stopping him he had to used his car for balance. That was my first clue he was really drunk. I have had them pee on themselves in the past and this fella wasnt far from that point of intoxication. At the BT room he blew a .22. <hiccup> :)
Another fascinating encounter was that of a silver vehicle that didnt stop for a red light. In fact he didnt slow down for any of them downtown when i tried to initiate a traffic stop. Last I saw him he was doin 90 through downtown. Our department doesnt allow vehicle pursuits under the circumstances so I couldnt take out after him. I have had my share of vehicle pursuits and dont mind the policy.
Hope this page catches on...til tommorrow.

Another busy night. Had to take a rookie along to train tonight. He wrecked my patrol vehicle. Wasnt very happy but its not like I havent been in his position before.
Arrested another DWI; been a good week for catching them. The more I can get off the road the happier I am. I have seen the lives touched by the damage they cause and take pride in putting them in jail. Tonights DWI blew a .15.
Other activities during this shift included an accident investigation without injuries, security checks, and a lot of catch up on paperwork that was gettin behind. Business was good so far this week. til tommorrow! :)

Today was a little slow. I wrote a few
tickets and met a few great people. Meeting new people is one of
the greatest aspects of this job.
The highlight of this shift was a traffic stop. The driver was hispanic that gave me a false name. What the driver didnt know at first was that I speak a little Spanish, so when he asked the passenger in Spanish what date of birth he should use for the persons name he was telling me he was I knew something was up. He now resides in jail.
Tommorrow is my court date. Should be fascinating. Til tommorrow.....
September 21, 1998
Spent most of the day in court. We have assigned court dates once a month. The defendants in two of my cases actually went to jail. It is amazing how many people they let go with a slap on the hand. I catch the same people from time to time. Today one in particular stood out. i arrested her in 1996 for driving while license suspended. She didnt pay her fines in that case. I ran into her again about three weeds ago, and again the next day. The judge put her in jail.
Other than that I worked an accident without injuries, and more paperwork. Not to exciting today.
I come back on duty on Saturday. Takin a few much needed days off with wife and daughter. Stay tuned....

Today was busy. The first call was an accident without injuries. A simple rear end collision but one of the drivers was very upset and cried most of the time I was there. About all I could do was to re-assure the driver things would turn out OK. Eventually she calmed down and I was off to the next call.
The next call was a family disturbance between a 14 year old and his parents. The father had come by the 14 year olds home to pick him up for the weekend. The 14 year old didnt want to go. The 14 year old finally agreed to go with his father and I was off to the next call.
Other calls today included a disturbance between two neighbors in one of our local project areas. Both were drunk and irrational. Of the things I would like to tell these two neighbors I would like to have said, 'alcohol is your problem, your fighting over cat crap idiots!' One of the neighbors was ready to fight because the other neighbors cat "crapped" in front of the others apartment. People argue about the silliest stuff.
Monday is my next tour of duty. Til then....
September 28, 1998
Today was also busy, especially for a dayshift. The first call was a larceny of lawn equipment. The owner left the equipment outside for all to see and consequently someone decided to make the stuff their own. Other calls included 911 hang-ups, disturbances, and business alarms. Typical calls for dayshift.
Tuesday is the last day for dayshift, then I go on Midnight shift Saturday. Midnight shift is my favorite. Nobody is out after midnight except bad guys and cops. Business is good on Midnight shift......
September 29, 1998
The first call today was a domestic dispute between a jealous boyfriend and his girlfriend. He called his girlfriend at her work and while she was on the phone with him, he began breaking things in her apartment. She didnt want to prosecute for damaging her things. Strange relationship.
I also worked another accident. This one involved a school bus and a small truck. The school bus won. Luckily no kids were on the school bus yet and no injuries.
End of the month meant more paperwork than usual so I had to spend some time on that.
I am off until Saturday. I plan on
watchin a drug house and mabe doing a search warrant during midnight shift.
Stay tuned!
