Jarl Haakon

                (to the tune of "Brian Boru's March")

Note:This is a work in progress.  I may change some of it so it flows
more smoothly.

True Asatru folk in the Trondelag stayed,
They followed the old gods, they wouldn't be slaves,
But Olaf had pledged to impose a new faith,
But Haakon our true jarl was strong, he was brave.

Chorus:
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
Haakon would not run from this large Christian force,
He'd destroyed the Jomsvikings, he was the best of the Norse,
He raised his horn to Odin, and drank another for Thor,
If Olaf wanted a fight, then he'd give him a war!

Repeat chorus;
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
Haakon laughed aloud at the threats Olaf sent,
He was the Jarl of Trondheim, that's where men were still men,
But he was killed in his sleep, betrayed by a "friend,"
Olaf dared not face him, so gold bought Haakon's end!

Repeat chorus;
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
Olaf felt at ease, smiling broad like a whore,
He spit at the gods, he broke statues of Thor,
He didn't hear Haakon's welcome from the Einherjar's roar,
Nor the piglet that squealed at the death of boar!

Repeat chorus;
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
Jarl Erik still lived, Haakon's great son,
Though Haakon was dead, Olaf still hadn't won,
Erik joined with two kings to make King Olaf run,
In a battle at sea Olaf faced Haakon's son!

Repeat chorus;
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
Erik's heart was ablaze, he cleared the Long Serpent's deck,
And none could give pause to his blood-soaked revenge,
Yet Olaf still claimed he'd fight till his last breath,
But seeing Erik's red eyes Olaf leaped to his death!

Repeat chorus;
Take up the ax, trace the hammer sign,And follow the one true Jarl of Trondheim,
Keep to your faith and boldly sing,"Onward for Haakon and damn Norway's king!"
