FUNDRAISING REPORT - We had three items to sell on Reporting-In Day. Mike Shovlin donated a huge supply of Academy Speaks to us, and we sold 37 copies at $2. Steve Digaudio
painted and decorated ten "cadet mail" baskets - only sold one, so we had a loss (and nine left to peddle during Parents Weekend). Also, we obtained a "freeware" slideshow
screensaver, packaged it with a dozen pictures of the EAGLE, loaded them on floppies (which were free), and sold 20 at $2. For Parents Weekend next month, we'll sell this
stuff again, but we need new ideas. Any suggestions? [note: check with prez DiGaudio before initiating anything - we have to follow strict CGA and IRS rules.]
Our goal is to provide support for cadet groups visiting our area (something we were unable to plan for the Windjammer Marching Band visit to Pittsburgh next month), and
to present a check to the Academy each Fall. In order to increase profitability, we need workers and ideas. Please help!

HELP NEEDED to STAFF OUR TABLE during PARENTS WEEKEND in Leamy Hall. We need many volunteers to give an hour or two. No couple should be expected to stay at the table most of the weekend. All of us want to be with our cadets, attend programs, and some of us have meetings to attend. The table will be
"open" 8-6 on Friday, and 8-1 on Saturday. We will also have copies of Help-Net to distribute free-of-charge. Remember - the cadets will benefit from all money raised.

Last year, Don & Mary Brasted, and Connie McKeever took charge. Steve & Anna DiGaudio had the honors on Reporting Day. In addition to selling "stuff" (our primary
fund-raising activity) our table serves as a "home base" for our cadet families during these weekends.

CADET BIRTHDAYS - At our June meeting we discussed sending birthday cards to our cadets. DiGaudio will make sure each gets an electronic card on their birthday, and
will publish in the newsletter the upcoming birthdays so that other families can mail or e-mail send cards, too. Unfortunately, we don't have birthdate, e-mail and PO Box info on all cadets.
If we miss your cadet, please e-mail the information to me.

HELP-NET for CADET AIR TRAVELERS - The VADM Nelson Chapter established Help-Net in 1996 (Don & Mary Brasted deserve the credit), and we are putting the finishing
touches on the first major revision. Many new families have volunteered, we've expanded coverage to several non-hub airports, and USO and international information has
been added. The new edition will be released next month.
HELP-NET for CADET HIGHWAY TRAVELERS is our chapter's next project - a flier listing parents near Interstates, particularly those in the "corridors" leading to the
Academy in the Northeast. We currently have a
Travel and Advisories page on our website. The new Help-Net will require some research as well as soliciting volunteers and doing the layout. Hopefully it can be ready by Thanksgiving. Anyone willing to
take on this project?

JUNE MEETING - we had an excellent chapter meeting on Sunday, 27 June, at the home of Dan & Connie McKeever (ENS Kerry'99, USCGC MIDGETT). Several current and
"retired" families, cadets and LTJG Ty Nagie '97 attended. Lynn Lachut showed us the unedited video footage that went into TDC special (first aired in May). Thanks to
Connie & Dan for their hospitality - hope we can do it again next year. (See Minutes) *****
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
ENS Kerry McKeever '99 (St.Clairsville, Ohio) and ENS Scott Clementz '98 (Cridersville OH) are on USCGC MIDGETT, which left Seattle 18 June for a 6-month joint
assignment with the Navy. Also based in Seattle is ENS Joseph Brown '98 (Erie PA), with the USCGC Polar Bear. Stationed in FL are ENS Ryan Reardon '99 (Cincinnati OH) and ENS Ken Shovlin '98 (Beaver PA) on the USCGC RESOLUTE, and ENS John Miller '98 (Chagrin Falls
OH) on the USCGC VENTUROUS, all based in St.Petersburg. Steve Bosau '93 (from North Olmsted OH) established a new port security Unit #307, Tampa, where he
has to train 144 reservists as port security team. Steve lives in Parrish. ENS William Arritt '98 (Fayetteville WV) is with the USCGC THETIS at Key West. ENS Greg
Barbiaux '98 (Sheffield Lake OH) of the USCGC COURAGEOUS, Panama City, was home recently for his sister's graduation and talked more about scuba diving
equipment than work. Bruce Tucker Jr. '95 (Toledo OH) is stationed in Honolulu HI ENS "TK" Brasted '98 phoned home from Venice recently. The USCGC BEAR (Portsmith VA) was in the Adriatic during the Kosovo "public relations" mission. He has seen
Turkey, Bulgaria and will head to Northern Africa - Morroco and Tunisia. Mom says he's very upbeat and having the "time of his life". ENS Bryan May (Greensburg PA) is
on the USCGC NORTHLAND and ENS Jody Popp '98 (Waynesburg PA) is with the USCGC FORWARD, also based in Portsmouth.
Rounding out the class of '98, ENS Matt Baer '98 (Bedford PA) is on the USCGC DILIGENCE, Wilmington DE; ENS Meredith Engelke (Cleveland OH) is on the USCGC
TAHOMA, New Bedford MA; ENS Michael Kreischer (Convoy OH) is on the USCGC MADRONA, Charleston SC; and ENS Kristian Pickrell '98 (Worthington OH) is on
the USCGC PLANETREE, Ketchikan AK God Speed to them and all our men and women in the U.S. military.

HOLIDAY MILITARY BALL - Cincinnati: From Elaine Reardon (ENS Ryan'99): For those people who live in southwest Ohio, we have an Academy Ball on Sunday,
December 26 at the Regal Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. Rooms have been blocked off with a special rate. Evening begins with appetizers, etc.. march in by cadets and
midshipmen, dinner, dancing - live band (London Street), photographer for keepsake photos, and pizza party afterwards. This is our eleventh year and the cost has been
kept low (around $25) because parents have been doing volunteer activities. If you are interested in attending, call or e-mail Reardon. She has to submit invitation requests by
October. SERVICE ACADEMIES BALL - Pittsburgh: Steve and Anna DiGaudio are on the planning committee (protocol & program). This is a great opportunity for
cadets and their families to get together with midshipmen and cadets from the other service academies, This year's event will take place at the Sheraton North on Sunday,
26 December. Cocktails (cash bar) begins at 1730 (5:30 p.m.), followed by a "grand march" of the cadets and their escorts, a short program, dinner, and dancing 'til
midnight to the music of a live band. Tickets are $35 per person, and can be purchased through Steve DiGaudio. *****
