The Axe Man! Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey L. Lewis

Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey L. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science from the College of the Ozarks in 1982 and a Master of Science degree in Business from the University of Arkansas in 1994. He was commissioned in 1983 after completing Officer Training School.

He graduated from pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, in April 1984. He received his initial C-130 training at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, and reported in December 1984 to the 61st Tactical Airlift Squadron where he served as Copilot, Aircraft Commander and Instructor Pilot.

In November 1988, he transferred to the DoD, Formal C-130 Training Schoolhouse, in the 16th Tactical Airlift Training Squadron (TATS). While in the 16 TATS he upgraded to evaluator pilot and served as the Chief of Safety. He completed Squadron Officer School in Residence in 1990.

In January 1991, he served as Wing Executive Officer with a follow-on assignment to the C-130 Formal Instructor Schoolhouse in the 34th Combat Airlift Training Squadron (CATS).

In October 1992, he was assigned to Air Mobility Command's Tanker Airlift Control Center (TACC). Here he served as Special Assignments Aircraft Mission Director, Chief Contingency Scheduling and finally as a Strategic Airlift Director.

In August 1994, he transferred to the Air Mobility Headquarters as War Plans Officer.

In September 1996, he crossflowed to the KC-135, assigned to McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, as a Flight Commander in the 344th Air Refueling Squadron (ARS). In 1997 he completed Air Command and Staff College in Correspondence.

In October 1998 he was transferred to the 384th Air Refueling Squadron as Assistant Operations Officer and in November 1999 became Squadron Operations Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Lewis is a command pilot with over 3500 flying hours in the T-37B, T-38A, C-130E, KC-135R and KC-135T.

His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon and the Air Force Training Ribbon.

Lieutenant Colonel Lewis is married to the former Shelley Renee Skidmore of Wichita, Kansas. Together they have three daughters and one son, Megan, Micah, Renee and Seth.
