LIEUTENANT COLONEL MICHAEL R. HINDES

Lieutenant Colonel Michael R. Hindes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Northern Illinois University in 1981, and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle University in 1988. He was commissioned in 1981 after completing Officer Training School.

He graduated from pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, in September 1982. He received his initial KC-135 training at Combat Crew Training School at Castle Air Force Base, California, and reported in February 1983 to Plattsburgh Air Force Base, New York, were he served as an instructor co-pilot in the KC-135. He completed Squadron Officer School in Correspondence in 1985.

In October 1985, he returned to Air Training Command as a T-38 instructor pilot, supervisor of flying, flight commander, and chief of check section, first at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona, and then at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. There, he was chosen by the Commander, Air Training Command as his Aide-de-camp.

In June 1991, he transferred back to Strategic Air Command at March Air Force Base, California to serve as a KC-10A instructor pilot, supervisor of flying, and flight commander.

In June 1994, he was assigned to Air Mobility Command's Inspector General as an inspector/planner and then, moved to AMC Directorate of Personnel as Chief of Executive Development at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. In 1995 he completed Air Command and Staff College in Seminar.

In July 1997, he returned to the KC-135 as the operations officer of the 350th Air Refueling Squadron at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas. In February 1998, he was appointed Chief of Wing Safety.

In August of 1998, he took command of the 384th Air refueling Squadron, the premier refueling squadron in the Air Force!

Lieutenant Colonel Hindes is a command pilot and has flown over 3200 hours in the T-37B, T-38A, KC-10A, KC-135A, KC-135Q, KC- 135R and KC-135T.

His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Aerial Achievement Medal; the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Air Force Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award; the Combat Readiness Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Star; the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three Oak Leaf Clusters; the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; and the Air Force Training Ribbon.

Lieutenant Colonel Hindes is married to the former Christine Angelico of San Antonio, Texas. They have two daughters and one son, Kayla, Sydney and Drew.
