General Information

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI)

During the time of the nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands (1947-1962), it was under US administration as the easternmost part of the UN Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.� The Marshall Islands became independent in 1986.� All the tests (except for Operation Wigwam) that the Marine Detachments aboard the USS Curtiss participated in were conducted in the Marshall Islands.

Oceania, a group of atolls and reefs in the North Pacific Ocean,
about half-way between Hawaii and New Guinea.
