Official Reports of the War of the Rebellion: Gettysburg

Gettysburg reports are in Volume XXVII of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies.  Volume XXVII has three parts.

The official report of the 1st Minnesota Regiment from the Battle of Gettysburg (II Corps (Hancock), 2nd Div. 1st Brig.). The report notes the capture of the colors from the 28th Virginia Regiment by Pvt. Marshall Sherman. The flag captured by Pvt. Sherman is held by the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1998, a group of reenactors from Virginia asked for (demanded?) the flag's return. Now, the Virginia State Legislature is considering asking for the flag back.  The Minnesota Historical Society and the Governor of Minnesota refuse to consider the request. The flag remains in Minnesota! Hurrah for the Union!
