This introductory course, follows five intertwined curriculum themes, Aviation (military and civil, what makes an airplane fly, aviation, weather, etc.); Space (missiles, space vehicles, and astronauts); Careers; National Defense; and Leadership (how to develop better self-discipline, self-confidence, self-motivation, self-reliance). Students get some excellent military training free, with absolutely no requirement to ever serve in the military. Emphasis is placed on information on scholarship opportunities to colleges, universities, and service academies. The Reproductive Health, Pregnancy Prevention, and Family Living Education Topics program of study is a three (3) week unit within this discipline. This course satisfies the state requirement for instruction in Human Sexuality, as well as the state requirement of one year of PE (or one year of JROTC).
Because of block scheduling, cadets are required to wear their uniform on Wednesdays or Thursdays, depending on whether or not they have class on an A day or a B day. On these days, cadets usually go outside for inspection and drill. Cadets receive uniform exemptions when they wear their uniform on any other day than a uniform day.
Field Trips
During the school year JROTC students take many field trips. We go to Dayton, Ohio (Wright-Patterson Air Force Base), and Orlando, Florida. In addition to these field trips, cadets get at least one orientation flight in a C-130, and on many different aircrafts.
