LAFB Main Gate

In April of 1942, the 307th Bombardment Group was formed under orders of President Roosevelt, at Geiger Field, Washington, with B-17 aircraft. The 307th received several citations for their heroism in action and proudly received the coveted Fairchild Trophy in 1959. In October 1954 the Bomb Wing was assigned to Lincoln AFB, Nebraska and began conversion to B-47 aircraft. Colonel Elkins Read Jr. commanded the 307th Bomb Wing 1957

The 98th Bomb Wing was assigned to Lincoln AFB, Nebraska in July 1954 and combat ready in June 1955. Colonel William C. Garland commanded the 98th Bomb Wing December 1958

Robbie Robertson was killed in a B-52 crash in Nov. 1967 while conducting a night low level T/A calibration check in Minnesota. He was flying a G model B-52 from the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB, LA.
Wally Whitehurst was a pall bearer at the funeral. Robbie's wife, Betty, still lives at the same house they lived in when Robbie died
