The British fleet based at Addu Atoll was divided into two groups:
Warspite, the two fleet carriers, the 8" cruisers, Emerald, Enterprise and 6 destroyers comprised the first group.
3rd Battle squadron
Resolution, Revenge, Royal Sovereign, Ramilles, Hermes two 6" cruisers, Heenskirk and 5 destroyers.
