HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY LESSON
1. Nha Trang was the Headquarters of the 5th Special Forces Group.
(Look up along the Coast)
2. Vietnam was divided into 4 Regions (Called "Corps"); IV Corps was the 4th Region
of the Country; IV Corps started about where the long part of Cambodia sticks into Vietnam,
across and below Ho Chi Minh City. It covered all of the area South and West of that
imaginary line.
3. I served from September 6th, 1969 to November 10, 1970; alittle over 14 months.
I was assigned to Three (3) A-Teams during that time. A-402 (Moc Hoa) was, about, in the area
above the "o" in Long Xuyen. A-404 (Cao Lanh) was, about, in the area north of the "dot" for
Sa Dec, near the river. A-442 (To Chau) was near Ha Tien, where Cambodia and Vietnam meet,
on the Gulf of Thailand.
4. Now!, even though I was assigned to the above A-Teams, that didn't mean that I was
"IN" the camps; our area of operation was the whole Mekong Delta. I don't think I spent more than
4 months total in the "Camps", on stand-down (meaning rest and relaxation) and getting ready to go
out again. Most of my operations were in the area called "the 7 Mountains" and "the Plain of Reeds",
an area that covered most of the words of "Long Xuyen and My Tho" on the map.
