This Web Site is dedicated to SGT. John M.
Jones, Jr., "JJ" to his friends. He was the best friend I ever had in the
Army. His name appears on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.;
"THE WALL".

It has been 27 years since "JJ" was killed, and I didn't really
know what happened. In October 1997 I heard from someone through e-mail,
that knew part of the story. What I heard sounds like "JJ". He was with
B-36, the III Corps Mike Force, and was leading a patrol, and he decided
to take point. He was in a bad area of III Corps, in war zone "D", near
Rang Rang, in Long Khanh Province. It was a Recon in Force mission, and
"JJ's" patrol walked into an ambush. He was awarded the Silver Star and
Purple Heart.
The reason I said it sounded like "JJ" is because in a situation
like that, he would take the responsibility on himself, rather than having
someone else do it, that was "JJ", my best friend in the army, and I really
miss his friendship.
I found more infomation on "JJ". I was finally able to buy the Complete
set of "Green Beret" Magazines from Steve Sherman.
In the April 1970 issue, on page 22, they list the Decorations received by Men in
Special Forces in Vietnam. "JJ" not only received the above awards, but he also received
the Soldiers Medal, and Bronze Star for Heroism (Posthumous). The Soldiers
Medal is the highest Decoration for actions NOT involving combat, but at the "risk
of life above, and beyond the call of duty."
He is one of America's best, and as long as we never forget him,
he will live forever.
