The Breast Insignia recognizes the exceptional achievement, initiative and professional qualifications of military personnel. Qualification signifies that the individual has attained professional skills, knowledge and experience of that particular speciality. These qualifications may only be obtained through formal, rigid and often arduous qualification programs.

Navy Achievement Medal

Awarded to Navy and Marine Corps personnel who distinguish themselves though outstanding professional service, achievement or leadership.

For operations in the Persian Gulf, 1988.
Meritorious Unit Citation Ribbon
5 Awards

Awarded to a unit of the Navy or Marine Corps which distinguishes itself by either valorous or meritorious achievement considered outstanding.

For Middle East operations; Persian Gulf operations and 3 Special Operations (still classified).

I wasn't always a Master-at-Arms *smile*

Navy E (Battle E) Ribbon
5 Awards w/Wreath

The Secretary of the Navy established this award in 1976 to replace the Battle Efficiency Award (the letter "E") which had been worn sewn to the sleeve of the uniform. It is worn by all members of units which are considered the 'Best of the Best'. The Battle "E", also consists of a battle pennant which is flown by the ship, or unit winning the award, from the yardarm.

Navy Good Conduct Medal
5 Awards

Awarded to enlisted service members of the Navy for 4 years of continuous active service of an above-average nature in the areas of professional performance, military behavior, leadership, military appearance and adaptability.

Basically I just never got caught. *laughing*

Navy Expeditionary Medal
4 Awards

For Opposed Landing on Foreign Soil. Awarded to Navy and Marine Corps personnel who have
landed on foreign soil and were engaged in operations against armed opposition.

For an operation in the Middle East and 3 Special Operations (still classified).

National Defense Service Medal

This medal was awarded for honorable military service to any service member who served between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954 (Korean War period), January 1, 1961 and August 14, 1974 (Vietnam War period).

It was a "gimme" in other words, but I'm still proud of it - it was my first medal.
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal

Awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who participated in US military operations involving assistance for friendly or foreign nations or in danger from hostile actions.

For Persian Gulf operations during the 1988 Iranian Crisis.

Vietnam Service Medal

Awarded for service in the Republic of Vietnam.

Enough said.
Sea Service Deployment Ribbon
5 Awards

Awarded to recognize the unique and demanding nature of sea service and the arduous
duty attendant with such service deployments.

For service/deployment on an aircraft carrier; two destroyers
and three nuclear submarines.

And no, ain't gonna tell you what I was doing. As I said, I wasn't always a Master-at-Arms. *laughing*

Overseas Service Ribbon
3 Awards

Awarded for Overseas Service. Those stations included, but were certainly not limited to: Misawa, Japan; Rota, Spain and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.

From those bases I deployed and/or worked onboard various ships, submarines and with unconventional warfare units.

Go ahead, wonder what I was doing. *grin*

Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon
w/silver "O"

Authorized by the Commandant of the Coast Guard and given to members of the Armed Forces
serving in any capacity with the Coast Guard for certain operations.

For counter-drug operations in the Caribbean.

Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry

Awarded by the Government of South Vietnam

For actions while serving in the Republic of Vietnam.

Navy Expert Rifle
w/silver "E"

Awarded to Naval personnel who have qualified as "Expert" rifle marksman on the prescribed qualification firing course. A silver "E" is placed on the ribbon and medal if the marksman has
qualified Expert for 3-consecutive years.

I maintained an expert rating for 17-years on the M1, M14, M14A1, M16 and MP5.

Navy Expert Pistol
w/silver "E"

Awarded to Naval personnel who have qualified as "Expert" pistol marksman on the prescribed qualification firing course. A silver "E" is placed on the ribbon and medal if the marksman has
qualified Expert for 3-consecutive years.

I maintained an expert rating for 18-years on the .45, .38, .357 and 9mm.
