First hull section
of Jimmy Carter
arrives in Groton
July 6, 1998

The first major hull section of Jimmy Carter (SSN-23) arrived in Groton Thursday night, several weeks ahead of schedule.

According to John Casey, VP - Operations, the early delivery translates to the early start of section 6. "That's good news because it means work for the Groton shipyard," he said.

"The Quonset Point facility finished all assigned construction work ahead of schedule and under budget, although the hull section is relatively empty," he said.

The next section of Jimmy Carter will be shipped from Quonset Point to Groton toward the end of the year, Casey said.
