What is the American Legion?
For those of you who may not have seen or heard of the American Legion, it is a veterans' organization. This organization was formed to serve the veterans of America's wars across the world. Any veteran of the armed services who was enlisted during specific time frames is eligible for membership.
The Legion serves the needs of their veterans, as well as veterans not in the Legion, in many ways. For one, it provides food and other sustenance to those less privileged. It provides low-cost housing to veterans and their families. In addition, it also provides services such as medical care for those who need it. Finally, and perhaps one of the most important services, is that the American Legion provides local Posts to offer a place for veterans to share their experiences, congregate, associate, and to help the community in meetings. So, over all, the American Legion supports the veterans as well as the community.
