USS OKINAWA LPH 3 (Amphibious Assault Ship)
This Is How We Got To The Gulf. We Spent 10 Months On And Off The Deck Of The Okinawa.
Thanks to these guys we didn't have to walk as much. They say Grunts are God like but none of us could figure out how to walk across the ocean so we needed these Devil Dogs to give us a lift !!!.

At approximately 0513 hours on October 8, 1990. Two UH1N helicopters from HMM 164 embarked on the USS Okinawa were conducting training operations off the coast of Oman. The two heliocopters disappeared from radar and failed to respond to radio calls. Searches revealed small pieces of the heliocopters and half of one of the crew members helmets. The eight Marines were the first military personnel to become missing in Operation Desert Shield.
