The South West Asia Service Medal was instiuted in 1992 to members of the Armed Forces who's active participation in, or support of, Operations Desert Sheild, Desert Storm and or Operation Southern Watch. This is concidered a campaign medal. A person places one star on the medal for each campaign they were involved with.
