SUMMER 1999
Summer is almost
over. The kids are back in school week. Of course, down here
in the south,
things won’t really start cooling off until October/November. Heather
is in seventh grade this year
and Daniel is in third. They are continuing at at the Christian school
and are looking forward to an
exciting year. Heather is on the junior varsity volleyball team and
also the school choir. That will
keep us plenty busy. As well as homework after school. Seems
like it takes a loooong time.
This move and our new home has kept me busy. As you can tell, I haven’t
been spending much
time on my homepage. Rather, we’ve been working on the house.
Planting flowers, painting rooms,
putting up miniblinds and gutters. I put border around all the plant beds
in the front yard and Jon
filled in an area with white rock (the area tends to flood with no place
for drainage). I feel as if we
haven’t made much progress. But of course we have. I guess
I feel a sense of urgency, since we don’t
know how long we’ll be here. We’ll probably get more done once the
weather cools down a bit. On
the inside we’ve painted the study and Jonny’s room. I want to put
up some border and wallpaper in
his room as well. We also have accent paint for the living room.
The kids spent the summer at Jon’s parents’ in Texas. Shortly after school
let out, Jon's mom
arrived to whisk Heather and Daniel away to Nana’s. She also had
three of their other cousins
staying at her house, and on Father's weekend both of Jon's parents took
a road trip with all five kids
to pick up a sixth cousin in Norfolk. It was pretty busy at Nana's.
They swam in her pool, played
outside, went to Sea World, the Zoo, went camping at our land in the country,
and lots of other fun
stuff. I’m glad they had the opportunity to visit their grandparents
and spend some time with their
cousins.
Jon’s job is keeping him traveling. So far he’s been to Virginia,
Washington DC, Rhode Island and
Florida. He’ll also be traveling around the world, literally.
He’ll be heading to Spain first, then
Greece, Japan, and finally California before coming back home. The
kids and I may visit my parents
in Pennsylvania during this time.
The kids all celebrated their birthdays this summer. Heather turned
12. I can’t believe she’s
getting so big. She had her party at Nana’s with her cousins and
some friends from San Antonio.
Jonny celebrated his first birthday along with his Daddy. We had
a small party with some friends
here at home. Jonny looked great with his face covered in chocolate
cake. I’ll get that on the
internet as soon as I get it developed. Daniel had his party for
his 8th birthday the following week.
We’re very excited about what God has planned for us here. We’ve
found a wonderful little church
that is filled with the neatest people. Jon and I look forward to
getting to work there. And also in
our community. I see our street as an opportunity to start a small
evangelistic Bible study with other
women (or couples if possible). I’m trying to meet everyone but am
unsure as how to proceed.
Please pray for the LORD to open up doors of opportunity for us.
We’ve been keeping many of you in our prayers, especially when special
needs arise. Please let us
know how you are doing and anything specific you would like us to lift
in prayer. Prayers for us would
include Jon’s travel, wisdom and an abundance of love in raising our children,
and God’s guidance in
the work he has for us to do.
Till next time,
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow
with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
