The F-15 was developed in the early 1970s to counter the then new MiG 25 Foxbat. This plane can fly at over Mach 2.5 or faster. The reason for the two tails is so that if an engine goes out during flight the plane will still be controlable. When Operation Destert Storm came around, the F-15E had just finished being developed, so all the planes that were in the Gulf were as new as planes can get. The E model is the only version of the F-15 that can carry more than two bombs. The rest, versions A-D, are built to be primarily dogfighters.
