Mission Statement and Introduction

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the City of Angels Ballet to provide the highest level of training in classical ballet to any talented child in Los Angeles, regardless of the ability to pay. The primary goal of the City of Angels Ballet is to develop a ballet academy for children that can eventually support a resident ballet company that accurately reflects the diversity of the city.

Introduction

The City of Angels Ballet, Inc. (CAB) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation founded in 1989 for the purpose of offering professional quality instruction in ballet to children in the city of Los Angeles. Children with the talent for dance are equally distributed throughout the population of the city; they come from all racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

CAB believes that all children with talent should be given the opportunity for quality training in dance. Excellence in ballet training provides children with the opportunity to develop confidence in the body, pride in the self, and a life-long appreciation of the arts. For the child with talent, quality training may provide the basis for a career.

The CAB recognizes that programs that target inner-city, disadvantaged youth must attend to issues of the breadth as well as depth. The CAB is committed to providing beginning ballet instruction to any disadvantaged child who wishes to receive it, at no cost. Also, children who become members of the academy will participate in lecture demonstrations of ballet in their local schools and communities, exposing many children to the fine arts and developing a sense of pride in the accomplishment of their peers.

Participation in the arts by diverse groups strengthens both the arts and the community. As students from local neighborhoods become a source of pride, neighborhoods will be strengthened. As students from diverse neighborhoods evolve into a professional performing company, the culture of the city will be enhanced.
