For me, Georgette Heyer is one of the consumate author's of popular fiction (or pulp fiction. Her work - primarily in the genre she created, the period romance - is intelligently written, well plotted, and replete with dialogue which - as they are wont to say - sparkles like champagne. Heyer's best loved writings are the romances which she has cast in the Regency or the periods close to the Regency, though she also dabbled in the mystery genre, elements of which often occur in her romances. As with Michael Moorcock (another master of pulp) Heyer's work is not only readable - but re-readable and capable of engendering an intense and faithful fandom (hmmm - why aren't there Georgette Heyer Conventions?) For me one of the greatest discoveries on the internet was the Georgette Heyer Listserve group - at last a like minded (most of the time :)) body of Heyer readers - some of whom are even going so far as to organise the beginnings of Georgette Heyer mini conventions (aaaaaaah - and so it begins!!!) If you are familiar with Heyer, I am sure you will find the links here satisfying addditions to your Heyer lore. If you have never read Georgette Heyer's work begin at once!!!Here's a few suggestions to start you on your way
The Toll Gate - a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, and a fair share of humour.
Frederica - an excellent portrayal of the devastating effects of the innocent upon the experiened.
The Masqueraders - an exciting novel set after the collapse of the Jacobite uprisings, carefully weaving the romance and action strands of the story.
