BIOGRAPHY
Jacek Hagel was born and raised in Szamotuly, a small town in Poland. He apprenticed with his father, Henryk Hagel, a world renowned artist, who received acclaim for his unique folk art sculpture; soon they teamed up to create masterworks. Together, they renovated the Palace in Czerniejewo, sculpting and carving with period materials and methods.
Jacek graduated from the prestigious Franciszek Bartoszek Fine Arts College in Poznan, where he studied sculpture, painting, graphics, and design and was honored with the Design Award (1977). Returning to Szamotuly, Jacek served as Art Curator of the Museum Gorka Castle, a cultural center of the region. The Minister of Culture and Art bestowed upon him a special Award of Honor and Distinction for his project, a retrospective exhibition of the culture of Szamotuly. At the same time, Jacek began to accumulate his impressive portfolio of his own artwork, a wide diversity of paintings in the style of old masters, as well as original graphics, wood sculptures and furniture.
In 1992 Jacek left Poland for America. Today his artworks can be seen all around the world. After exhibiting for many years in Europe, Jacek showed his work at the Federal Building in Los Angeles in 1993 and at the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibition in Hollywood in 1995. In 1996 his paintings and icons were on display at the Desmond Gallery in Hollywood and the Russian Enchantments Gallery in Beverly Hills. In 1998 he exhibited his icons, paintings and furniture at the Polam Art Gallery in Los Angeles.
After years of experimenting with different art styles, Jacek is now unveiling his new artistic endeavor “Hollywood Icons”, a series of Celebrity Portraits on wood based on medieval icons, a traditional Eastern European art form. The Randall Erickson Contemporary Art Gallery in Palm Springs presented the exhibit "Hollywood Icons by Jacek" in January and Ferbuary 2001.
